Will the draft Defamation Bill provide the solution to online libel?

A note by Shoosmith’s Jo Joyce on whether the draft Defamation Bill will provide a solution to the matter of online libel. Taking the recent McGrath & Anor v Dawkins & Ors (Rev 1) [2012] EWHC B3 (QB) as the basis for the article, there is little more than an update on current issues in libel reform but the article does make one very clear point at the end: the draft Defamation Bill is likely to be amended before it becomes law. For the time being, those concerned about potentially defamatory statements will need to gain legal advice.
